The Minneapolis Plumbers JJATC will be taking applications for both the Minneapolis and St Cloud apprenticeship programs January 4-28, 2021, 8:30am – 2:30pm, Monday – Thursday.

Application Request Guidelines:
– Requests must be submitted between the hours of at 8:30am – 2:30pm, Monday – Thursday, January 4-28, 2021. Requests submitted outside of these parameters will not be accepted.
– In your request, provide only your first name, last name and the email address where all communication regarding this process should be sent and received. Do not include any other information or questions at this stage.
– Once your request has been submitted, you will receive an email with an invitation to complete the application and testing. The invitation will expire 22 hours after you receive it, so please plan accordingly.
If you do not have internet access, please check with your local library. Please note: the application and tests ARE mobile device friendly. Please plan for about an hour to apply and take the tests. We require a copy of your high school diploma, high school transcript, or GED. You will be able to upload a pdf to your application.
We are also accepting applications in person. Due to Covid-19 restrictions and safety measures, we will only be able to accept a limited number of applicants in person at the Plumbing Technology Center, January 4-28, 2021, 8:30am – 2:30pm, Monday – Thursday.
You will be required to have your temperature taken at our thermal scanner and be correctly wearing a mask before being admitted to the building. Properly worn masks are required at all times while in the building. If maximum capacity has been reached when you arrive, you will be asked to wait outside and notified when space is available. Strict social distancing measures will be in place. Please plan for about an hour to apply and take the tests.
We are located on the NE corner of the Dunwoody College of Technology campus at 818 Dunwoody Blvd., Minneapolis, MN 55403, in the Plumbing Technology Center. Please bring a copy of your high school diploma, high school transcript, or GED.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I apply any time during the year?
No, we take applications once a year. The dates and times are listed above.
Q: Can I get an application mailed to me?
No, you must apply online or in person. Applying online is strongly encouraged.
Q: What if I can’t find my high school diploma or GED?
You can usually contact your school and obtain a copy of your transcripts.
Q: Is there a test?
Yes. There are three. You will take a basic math and verbal skills test, as well as a mechanical aptitude test and a risk assessment.
Q: When can I these tests?
You will take the tests when you apply. You will need about an hour.
Q: Can I retest if I don’t do well?
No. You can only take the test once during the application period.
Q: Is there a sample test I can practice with?
No, this is a basic skills test. However, you may want to review basic algebra skills, fractions, percentages etc.
Q: What’s next after tests are completed?
You will receive an email once you have successfully completed the application and tests, with information regarding the next steps.
Q: I see you have schools in two locations. Can I apply at both? What if one location is more convenient for me?
You can apply and interview for only one of the program locations, and you will be committed to that location for the duration of your apprenticeship. If you apply for St. Cloud, you will attend classes in St. Cloud for the first three years of the five years. The final two years of classes are all in Minneapolis.
Q: What are the related training classes?
The classes are held in the evening starting in September and running through April each year. You typically have class two nights a week, starting at 5:00 pm and lasting 3.5 to 4 hours each night.
Q: What are the qualifications to apply for the plumbers’ apprenticeship program?
You need to be 17 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
Q: What if I am a high school senior and haven’t graduated yet or I’m not 18?
You would need to provide us with your diploma or GED by June 15, 2021. According to Minnesota law no one under the age of 18 can work in the construction industry.
