The Minneapolis Plumbers JJATC will be taking applications for both the Minneapolis and St Cloud apprenticeship programs January 9-26, 2023, 8:30am – 2:30pm, Monday – Thursday.
We are only accepting applications in person. Walk-in only, no appointments.
Please plan for about an hour and a half to apply and take the tests. Once you start the process you must complete it. Please plan your time accordingly. We require an electronic copy of your high school diploma, high school transcript, or GED. Be sure to have a copy you can access from your email. You will be directed to the application/testing computer lab area where you will be provided with secure access to your email, so that you can receive the link to the application & testing. Part of the application requires that you upload your high school diploma, transcript, or GED, so you must be able to submit this from your email. This is required, and your application will not be considered without it. You may also electronically submit any additional documents at this time (letters of recommendation, resume, etc.).
You will be required to have your temperature taken at our thermal scanner, use the hand sanitizer, and be correctly wearing a mask before being admitted to the building. Properly worn masks are required at all times while in the building. We will have masks available if you do not have one. Strict social distancing measures will be in place. Please plan for about an hour and a half to apply and take the tests.

Q: Can I apply any time during the year?
No, we take applications once a year. The dates and times are listed above.
Q: Can I get an application mailed to me?
No, you must apply in person.
Q: What if I can’t find my high school diploma or GED?
You can usually contact your school and obtain a copy of your transcripts. This document is required.
Q: Is there a test?
Yes. There are three. You will take a basic skills test (grammar, math) a mechanical aptitude assessment and a risk assessment.
Q: When can I these tests?
You will take the tests when you apply. You will need about an hour to an hour and a half.
Q: Can I retest if I don’t do well?
No. You can only take the test once during the application period.
Q: Is there a sample test I can practice with?
No, this is a basic skills test. However, you may want to review basic algebra skills, fractions, percentages etc.
Q: What’s next after tests are completed?
You will receive an email once you have successfully completed the application and tests. This email will not be sent before January 27th. Email updates will be sent to the email address you provided.
Q: I see you have a Minneapolis and a St. Cloud program. Can I apply at both?
You can only apply for one of the programs, and you will be committed to that program for the duration of your apprenticeship. St. Cloud apprentices will generally work in the St. Cloud area, but this is not guaranteed. All classes are at the new Training Center in Maple Grove.
Q: What are the related training classes?
The classes are held in the evening starting in September and run through April each year. You typically have class two nights a week, starting at 5:00pm and lasting 3.5 to 4 hours each night.
Q: What are the qualifications to apply for the plumbers’ apprenticeship program?
You need to be 17 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
Q: What if I am a high school senior and haven’t graduated yet or I’m not 18?
You would need to provide us with your diploma or GED by June 30, 2023. According to Minnesota law, no one under the age of 18 can work in construction or on building projects.
